He is born in 1959 at Kolkata. He graduated in 1980 from the Government College of Art & Craft, Kolkata with a first class first Diploma in Paintings. 

Widely known as one of India's leading modern realistic artists, his works depict a vivid array of swirling colours and a sense of rhythmic movement. This is particularly pronounced in a series that he has done on Indian dances. In these oil and acrylic canvases, the dancers come alive with the swirl of their skirts and the rhythm of their feet.

He has been awarded from many organisations in Kolkata and New Delhi.

His paintings are with private collectors in India and abroad including Germany, Nepal, Japan, United Kingdom, and United States are proud owner’s of Subrata’s works.
